An update from Erin Lovell

Dear Community,

I am writing to share some bittersweet news. I will be transitioning out of my role as LCYC’s Executive Director in late July 2024. I am providing ample notice to ensure that my team and our partners are supported during this period of change for the organization, and to have overlap between myself and the next leader. LCYC’s Board of Directors will lead the hiring process, with staff input, to support a smooth and successful transition. Serving as the first Executive Director of LCYC has been a privilege, but it is time to make room for a new leader.

Since our founding in 2010, LCYC has grown in terms of legal issues addressed, number of youth served, the size and reach of our team, alignment with our values, engagement in systemic advocacy, and the strength and diversity of our staff and partners. Today, LCYC is stronger than it has ever been. We are physically present in more counties, serving more youth than ever before, and working in partnership with more organizations in communities across Washington on both direct and systemic advocacy. I am so proud of all that we have accomplished, and infinitely grateful for the commitment of LCYC’s staff, board, volunteers, and supporters who have joined LCYC in advancing our mission over these last 13 years.

For those wondering what’s next for me, I honestly don’t know. I will be in Seattle, and I am sure I will find new ways to contribute to the community. My focus for now remains on LCYC and supporting the leadership transition.

Thank you for your interest and support in LCYC and the young people we represent. I hope you will join me in welcoming and supporting the next Executive Director, when they are selected. Given the ongoing and unmet legal needs of young people in Washington, I have no doubt LCYC will continue to play a critical role in protecting the interests and safety of young people in Washington by advancing their legal rights.

With gratitude,

Erin
