Jorge Roa is a legal assistant for LCYC. Jorge has spent his career helping represent marginalized communities.
Jorge joined the LCYC team in 2024. Before joining LCYC, Jorge began his career volunteering at his law school's immigration legal clinic. He eventually gained further experience at an immigration law firm in Miami, Florida. Jorge also maintained a judicial law clerk position for the Honorable Judge Maria Elena Verde, where he primarily worked on family law-related cases ranging from custody to divorce issues.
Following his time with Judge Verde, Jorge began his work in Children’s advocacy with the Department of Children and Families in Florida. There, Jorge helped hundreds of minors and non-minor dependents in Miami-Dade County. He also helped represent caregivers and young people in special education, guardianship, custody, child support, and minors in court-appointed guardianship and custody cases.
Jorge obtained his J.D. degree at DePaul University College of Law in Chicago, USA. He also obtained his L.L.M. at Comillas Pontifical University in Madrid, Spain. He received his B.A. from Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida.
Jorge’s commitment to helping the marginalized is rooted in his first-generation Colombian immigrant experience. He enjoys cooking, hiking in the outdoors, hockey, traveling, and hanging out with his two dogs.
