Colleen Shea-Brown (JD), Supervising Attorney
Colleen Shea-Brown (she/her) is LCYC’s Legal Supervisor for our child welfare program in King County. Colleen began representing families in child welfare cases in 2002 through the Family Defense Clinic at NYU School of Law. Then, as a staff attorney at Legal Services for New York City in the Bronx, she continued to represent parents and relatives in dependency and termination cases using a multi-disciplinary approach, working on a team with social workers. From 2008-2014, Colleen investigated complaints and worked on systemic issues in Washington’s child welfare system as a Senior Ombudsman with the Washington State Office of the Family and Children’s Ombudsman. She joined LCYC in August 2014.
Colleen received her B.S. in Linguistics and Japanese from Georgetown University. During college, she worked as a residential counselor in a transitional shelter for homeless women in Washington, D.C. She received her J.D. from New York University, where she advocated for victims of domestic violence and was introduced to holistic child welfare representation.
